I first saw Ari play in a parking lot last summer in Santa Cruz, and she blew me away. I've been hoping to release something by her ever since, and our day has come at last! It's folk music, which we don't do much of as a label, but I think it's some of the best being made right now. Somehow Sqrt2 is traditional and "timeless", whatever that means, and new and exciting as hell at the same time.
Ari plays banjo, as you have probably deduced (as well as piano on one occasion), and both the playing and songwriting - not to mention the vocals, oh man - are hauntingly beautiful. I've actually saved that cliche to describe this album because that's what it is. That's my one use and now it's up to you to listen. This album is great. I recommend it especially to fans of birds and sadness.
This is SPR06, a pressing of 50 red cassettes. There may or may not be a secret track on the tape. It wouldn't be a secret if I told you outright.
